“We are all born ignorant, HORSE RACING works hard to remain stupid” -Ben Franklin

Of course I’m paraphrasing the wisdom of Benjamin Franklin, who also said, “They who give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Here’s proof.

Recently, the Daily Racing Form, and Thoroughbred Daily News both reported Hall of Fame jockey, Julie Krone has been named to the Humane Society of the United States’ National Horse Racing Advisory Council. Wow, this is so interesting. I know Julie Krone, she rode many winners for me and she rode my best horse, Saint Ballado to multiple wins. Julie was a great rider. According to Equibase (which is not totally accurate because I personally have a stack of win pictures much larger than they give me credit for having earned in my career as both a trainer and jockey) Julie Krone rode 21,412 races and won 3,704 times. These numbers place her in the top 100 jockeys of all time. Impressive is an understatement.

Julie is a well intentioned person… But with her marquee name recognition and involvement, the Humane Society will use her as a propaganda tool. Please understand, the Humane Society long ago stopped being just an advocate for animals. The Humane Society of today is a political organization hiding behind this old perception. This is a con wrapped in a ruse. Yes, some local chapters actually do good animal work but this is by design and part of the con. They are largely a group who scam people out of money by preying on emotions.

According to the Daily Racing Form, Krone will join other current or previous industry insiders on this board including another Hall of Fame jockey, Chris McCarron and several semi-prominent racing officials, including Joe De Francis, the former owner of the Maryland Jockey Club; Jim Gagliano, president and CEO of The Jockey Club; Allen Gutterman, a former racing executive; Joe Gorajec, former executive director of the Indiana Horse Racing Commission; and Staci Hancock, a founding member of a group opposed to the use of race day medication. All of these people are being duped.

Now, let me make sure everyone understands, Julie Krone cares deeply about horses – but she is not skilled in knowing the difference between well intended consequences and unintended consequences. The Humane Society, PETA, ASPCA and other animal rights organizations have devolved into radical, politically agenda driven groups. Horse racing should view these syndicates as, and label them for what they are – the equivalent of terrorist organizations.

In 2012 the ASPCA agreed to pay Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus $9.3 million to settle a lawsuit regarding the ASPCA’s false allegations of animal cruelty by the circus. In another lawsuit, filed by the Humane Society against Feld Entertainment, which owns Ringling Bros. Circus, a judge cited as “frivolous” the lawsuit by the Humane Society who had been paying off the lead plaintiff, a former employee of the circus, hundreds of thousands of dollars for dishonest testimony in the lawsuit. The judge awarded Feld Entertainment $25 million in damages. Feld Entertainment fought this criminal organization for over 14 years to win this battle. Ultimately, the circus lost the war against these criminals. They caved. ASPCA, PETA and the Humane Society killed the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus, which started when Ulysses S. Grant was president. After 146 years, the circus will be giving it’s last performance on May 21st in Uniondale, New York.

I am proud to say I attended multiple performances of the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus. I personally have two circus friends who have lost their way of life. Way more than a thousand other people will soon follow.

Mark my words, radical animal rights groups are trying to kill horse racing. These people will turn on you in the most vicious way imaginable. When you negotiate with terrorists, you bring upon yourself more terrorism.

The horse racing industry DOES NOT have an obligation to seat these radicals at the table. They have zero authority over the sport. Do not give power over your business to something that has none. Any power acquired has been ceded by us and grabbed by them. This action and by extension, any justification of their participation in horse racing is like asking what looks like a well intentioned guy the following question: “Hey, what do you do for a living? Well Intentioned Guy: “Oh I work with unwed mothers” You: “Ohhhh, that is so noble and caring. What is it you actually do?” Well Intentioned Guy: “Oh, you know…I just help them get their start..” The result is the same. Someone is getting screwed.

Your are so correct Clint. These people will turn on you in a heart beat. They have their own agenda and it rarely has the horse/animals best interest even though they say it does. They will stage “evidence” and lie. They are nothing more than terrorist organizations.

Darlene… Thanks for reading my blog post. These groups are scam artists. They are guilty of using (a form of abuse) animals and preying on the emotions of unknowledgeable people. I cannot for the life of me understand why the racing industry does not understand this scenario. I appreciate your comment:)

You are most certainly right. Everyone should be aware of how this works, good people think they are helping animals they love & when its too late they find out they were tricked into assisting the enemy & used.
    Everyone gets hurt in sports.
A couple days ago I watched an old favorite of mine, 10yo Bim Bam win again. He was so proud of himself & happy to win it was so much fun and so nice to see him make his way to the winners circle. He still obviously very much enjoys what he does even at ten yrs old. How is this bad?

Hi Missy, I really appreciate you taking the time to share your story about 10 year old Bim Bam. I know just what you’re talking about when you can see horses going into the winner’s circle are proud of themselves having just won. People who do not understand horses don’t realize, horses like structure, horses like to work. Horses with purpose in life are much happier. Animal rights zealots are the true enemy of horses and many other animals. These organizations are serving their own interests, not the interests of most animals.

Thank you for reading my post!

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Julie Krone, but I was very disappointed to see her take this role. As you said in your blog, her name will give legitimacy to what has become a PETA-like “animal rights” organization that hates human/animal relationships- and uses very little of its money to help real animals in trouble. My only hope is that Julie will speak out against the things this organization is doing once she sees what’s going on. I do think she’s tough enough to take them head on.

Sandy… You are absolutely correct in the ulterior motives of these organizations. As I said, Julie means well but she is not a skilled person in knowing how she will be used in this arena. I’m not sure she understands the dynamics involved. She’s plenty tough enough if she were going to speak out against these groups. However, they would not have placed her on this board if she were going to speak against them. Hopefully she comes to understand their motives. Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment.
