“Get Tied On…”

Professional bull-rider, Ty Murray put it best when an interviewer ask him how do you get ready to ride a bull. He responded: “You’re never completely ready, eventually it just becomes your turn”.

If you’re a bull-rider you step over the side of the chute, gingerly sit down on a 2000 pound bull. You slip your hand in the rope, cinch it up, pack your fingers and – with some degree of uncertainty, you nod. The gate is going to open. Your world is about to explode..

If you happen to be a jockey, when there’s one horse left to load in the starting gate, as the assistant starter leads that last horse in, he yells, “one back!”. The atmosphere immediately tenses up because very shortly after, the actual starter yells, “get tied on!”. You better have a rein in each hand and a finger full of mane because the loudest bell you’ve ever heard in your life is about to ring. Ten or more steel gates are about to crash apart from the middle. You will be jarred to your core beyond description. All hell is getting ready to break loose… You’re never completely ready.

In both instances, the only way back home is through the front gate. You can not go home that night unless – and even more importantly UNTIL you go forward. No turning back, no time outs, no do overs… no choice.

Think about it. Are we ever completely ready in life? In any part of life? No. Never. We spend countless hours, days, weeks and even years, trying in our hearts and minds to get ready. Ty Murray knew the secret. I know the solution. Here it is: “You just go”.

I’m not ready right now – but guess what… Here we go… I have lots of ideas and projects in the pipeline. It’s my turn. I’m tied on.

Over the coming days and weeks, I’ll be updating this blog with more information. More insights about my projects. More writing and more posts.
